Et tu, Kathy? Kathy Valentine, bass player of the Go-Go’s, is selling her Los Angeles home to move to her hometown of Austin, Texas. The co-composer of the hit song Vacation says she needs a permanent vacation from the Los Angeles “rat race.” That leaves just 3 Go-Gos left in the Valley of the Dolls: lead guitarist Charlotte Caffey, singer/songwriter Jane Weidlin, and drummer Gina Schock, who is BTW rumored to have had an affair with Jodie Foster. Belinda Carlisle was the first Go-Go to go in the late-80s, when she launched her solo career from her new home in London, where she still resides today.

For the youngins out there, the Go-Gos are an all-girl quintessential L.A. punk-pop band that came to fame in the new wave, punk Hollywood scene of the late-70s/ early-80s. The video for their hit song Our Lips Are Sealed, before it was an Olsen Twins movie or cover song for Hillary Duff, represented everything that Southern California could be for us girls growing up in the red state suburbs, glued to our MTVs in search of a brighter, more glamorous future.

The Go-Gos showed us how to handle the negative, jeering pressures of the world in style, in a beat up old convertible, sun glasses on, chin up. Where at school you could feel picked on and isolated for being different from the other girls, here, in this sun fantasy world that is Southern California, you were surrounded by the cool girlfriends you will have when you move to Los Angeles. Here your secrets make you special. Not lonely or blue, here you are golden and singing with the pretty ladies: Can you hear them? Talkin’ about us. Telling lies, well that’s no surprise. Can you see them? See right through them. They have no shield. No secrets to reveal. Doesn’t matter what they say. The jealous games people play, hey, hey, hey! Our lips are sealed… Our lips are sealed… Our lips are sealed…
