Republican Gov. of Maryland Appoints Openly Gay Judge

The Log Cabin Republicans must be erect with excitement over this little bit of news.

The Republican Gov. of Maryland, Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., named openly gay judge, Christopher Panos, 47, to serve on the Baltimore District Court. This appointment comes a little more than a week after he fired Robert J. Smith, one of his appointees to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, for asserting on a Montgomery County cable talk show that homosexuals lived a life of “sexual deviancy.”

“This is indicative of social progress within the form of a judicial nomination,” Panos said. And within the Republican Party as a whole I might add.
