The internet feels more private than it really is. A recent study found that more than a third of large U.S. companies read their employees’ outbound e-mail, and just under a third fired someone as a result. Employeers are also starting to research employees and potential candidates via the internet by googling and checking social network spaces such as MySpace and personal web blogs.

The ethical considerations of this are still up for grabs. Already, there have been cases of people being fired or expelled after employeers searched their personal Web pages.
