Will Starbucks Make You Fat?

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) thinks so.

The group that sued KFC for frying foods in oils high in harmful trans fat could be targeting Starbucks next. They wants Starbucks to list nutrition information — which is currently available online and in store brochures — on its menu boards where everyone can see it while they order.

In a fast paced, venti world, the nutritional infomation of consumer products should be easy to understand and access, says a spokesperson for the CSPI.

For example, did you know that a 20-ounce Venti banana mocha Frappuccino with whipped cream contains 720 calories and 11 grams of saturated fat? Or that the banana cream crunch bar that you pick up with your morning coffee has 630 calories and 25 grams of saturated fat? Would you be surprised to find out that a Big Mac has 560 calories and 11 grams of saturated fat, making it the surprisingly better food choice?

That’s why I’m skipping the Frappuccinos all together this summer. I’ll have a cup of home brewed coffee with mocha mix instead. Save the calories. Pocket the $3.75.
