Big Surprise: Bush Backs Amendment Banning Gay Marriage

According to the AP today, Bush is predicted to state his support for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage on Monday, the eve of a scheduled Senate vote on the issue.

The amendment has little chance of receiving the 100 votes necessary to pass. Proponents are struggling to get even 50 votes. Several Republicans oppose the measure, believing the decision to allow gay marriage should be left up to the states, and only one Democrat supports the amendment, Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska.

I wonder what our friends the Log Cabin Republicans have to say about their guy now? Just the other day they were applauding his signing of a law banning protestors at military funerals. (Never mind the fact that this law could also be used to ban protestors in general!)
